Open Source Programs

"How can you trust anything, when everything is real?"

I've pretty much decided that I'm going to try and use as many GNU/Open Source programs as possible, yes free is good but please note I do like the Donation possibility that is afforded to them. I may not be able to pay them 3-400 bucks, but I will at least send what I can.

Anyway, yeah I still have Quark and Dreamweaver and Photoshop to fall back on in a tight spot, but I am trying to use Scribus, Nvu, and Gimp (With GimpShop hack) to replace them.

Cinepaint [link] (Aimed more for Video)
Scribus [link]

I have also tried a bit of blender 3d but I don't have the patience to learn all that, when a photograph can take it's place. Maybe later.

Also playing with Make Human [link] ... rather base level at this point in dev, but fun to play with and it'll help me learn perspective.

I may buy a new harddrive for this laptop and see if I can get Ubuntu to work (It's an HP ... bleh) and if it does, my destiny is with GNU

I try hard not to be materialistic, and I don't require much to get by. So last night I had my bike stolen. I guess someone really liked it enough to yank it...

I didn't react like i thought I would.. I'm saddened of course, but not angry? Weird. I spent alot of time and money working on it, I thought I'd be a little more outraged.

I hope you enjoy it.

I'll miss it of course, but I don't think I'll ever see it again.

"How can you trust anything, when everything is real?"

From the beginning of our origins we have taught ourselves many mechanisms of defense against the hostile world around us. The instincts of fight or flight, the needs to find food, shelter, and water. Even the use of tools and weapons. The greatest of these defenses, however, lies within the deepest darkest folds of our minds. We have erected barriers around our minds to protect and shield us from a reality so complex that it would drive us insane if viewed head on, these are defenses to against our pasts and our futures. We have developed Religion, Science and Esoterica in order to hide us within our world, to save us the overwhelming madness that is our origins.

From pure western thought to modern scientific inflation theory, from belief in one god to belief in many, from ancient the dreamtime and animism to hermeticism and chaos magic. We seek answers to the thousands of questions we have about where we are from and why we are here. Each of these tools exist to help us through darker times and provide us with the crutches we need in order to keep ourselves going and thriving in a world that continues to decay around us. Our world grows around and within us, and as it grows, it becomes more and more unstable. From Street crime to Global Terrorism, Greed to abuse, from hordes of the uncaring to overpopulation and hunger.

Each of these, whether we face them or not, weighs us further down, closer to the point of drowning in our own horrible flood of pain, anger and hatred towards ourselves and others. We grow more and more fearful and desperate each and everyday, step by painful step we mire ourselves down, seeking the answers we need to cope with our futures. we turn to others for direction, we attend seminars to make ourselves better people, we join churches dedicated to gods we barely believe in. We escape in the Atheists oblivion, the Christians heaven and the Buddhists reincarnation. We've become a society that looks forward to the final release of death.
